Present Tense

  1. Simple Present

  4. Present Perfect Continuous

Hi everyone, In this lesson we are going to learn about one of the most important part of english grammar i.e Tense. In speaking or spoken english course tense plays an important role so I request you to carry your notebook and pen so that you can note important things about tense in your notebook. Lets start....

TENSE:-

In simple word tense means time
Or 
Tense is used to indicate an action or completeness of an action

Tense expresses time in three form :-

  • Present 
  • Past
  • Future

Note: In this article we are covering only Present tense



PRESENT TENSE:

  • Simple Present 
  • Present Continuous
  • Present Perfect
  • Present Perfect Continuous

A. Simple Present 

When do we use:-

  • Daily routine
  • Universal Truth/Scientific fact
  • Time tables/schedules
  • Permanent situations
Jab bhi hamein aisi baatein bolni hogi toh hum Simple present ka use karenge.

Ex:
   
  1. I wake up early in the morning.(daily routine)
  2. The Earth revolves around the Sun.( Universal truth)
  3. My class starts at 9:00 am.( time tables )
  4. Mohan works hard.( Permanent situation).


Syntax: 

   
     [ S+V1+s/es+O ] for singular 
     [ S+V1+O ]    for plural

Negative and Interrogative Sentences of Simple Present :-

  • I do not write /  Do you write? 
  • She does not sing / Does she sing? ( Yaha she singular hai phir bhi humne sing use kiya sings nhi because es hum do ke sath use kar chuke hai tabhi does bana )
  • You are not going for a picnic / Do you going for picnic? 
  • Ram does his work properly / Does Ram do his work properly?

B. Present Continuous 

When do we use:-

  • Something happening at the moment/ now
  • Temporary situations.
  • Changing trends.


Jab bhi humein aisi baatein bolni hogi toh we will use Present Continuous. Chalo example se aur samjhte hai.

Ex:
  •    We are studying English. ( happening at the moment/now )
  •    She is working hard for her exams.( Temporary situation means paper baad nhi karegi tyaari )
  •    Population is increasing day by day. ( Changing trend)

Syntax:-

                 [ S+ is/am/are + V1+ ing+ O ]


are- plurals 


Negative and Interrogative Sentences of Present Continuous :-

 Same as discussed in Simple Present examples ...

C. Present Perfect 

When do we use -
  •  Jab hum koi kaam kar chuke hai and usee batana hai but jis time hum bata rahe hai uss time ka connection hai kaam waale time ke sath don't worry example se acche se aajeaga..
  • unfinished time

Ex:
       I have written a letter this morning. 
   Explanation:
            Yaha usne letter likha hoga morning me lets suppose 8 am pe and ab woh baat bol rha hai 11:00 am pe so there is connection between time both are in morning but If there is no connection between time then we use Simple Past Tense..

       I wrote a letter this morning. ( yaha 8am baje likha hoga and bata rha lets suppose 6 pm me so morning me kiya and evening me bata raha hai so there is no connection between time. )


  More examples :

  I have completed my graduation.  ( time is not mentioned here so Present perfect )
  I completed my graduation in 2017. ( Simple past- if we use time )


 Syntax:-

                          [ S+ has/have + V3+ O ] 



Negative and Interrogative Sentences of Present Perfect :-

Examples:
  
  I have not bought any new phone till now. ( negative )
  Have you bought any new phone? ( interrogative )

 Syntax:-

                       [ S+ has/have + not + V3 + O ]

                       [ Has/Have + S + V3+ O +? ]


D. Present Perfect Continuous 

When do we use-

 Jo task present me chal rha ho but start huya ho past mein. 
Lets understand with examples...

Ex:
      
      She has been studying since morning. ( Started in past not ended yet )
      They have not been working for 10 days.

Syntax:-

                  [ S+ has/have + been + V1 + ing + time ]


 Interrogative Sentences :-

   Has she been studying since morning?

Syntax:-

  
              [ Has/Have + S+ been + V1 + ing+ time +? ]
